Massage as Medicine

Those of us who practice the art of massage, and those that enjoy receiving regular bodywork, instinctively know the degree of healing that can result from therapeutic touch. It seems that the rest of  the world is beginning to catch on. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, massage therapy has been shown to be helpful in treating everything from cancer to back pain. As more studios are done, it is becoming obvious that massage is more than just a luxury… it is medicine. Consumers are increasingly demanding (and paying out of pocket) for complimentary therapies such as massage and acupuncture.  More hospitals and clinics are offering  massage to their patients and a few insurance providers are offering limited coverage for alternative therapies.

For details about medical research on the medicinal qualities of massage please go here, where Dr. Tiffany Fields with the University of Miami has done numerous studies on the benefits of massage.
